Annual Report 2019-20
Introduction
The annual report was presented before the members of the alumni at 5th Alumni meet organized on 5th January 2020. Distinguished Alumni- Shri Jitendra Patel (Director, Daffodil Pharmaceutical), Dr. N. R. Sheth (Vice Chancellor, GTU), Dr. H. G. Koshia (Commissioner, FDCA) and Dr. C. J. Shishoo (Ex-Principal, LMCP) along with Dr. Mahesh Chhabria (Principal, LMCP) graced the dias for the inauguration ceremony. 350 alumni across the globe gathered at the meet. A brief note of the annual activities of the college during the academic year 2019-2020 is highlighted here.
Achievements of the college
The college was awarded with overall 4 stars (out of 5) in Gujarat State Institutional Rating Framework (GSIRF) – 2020.
Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC) of the college was awarded with 3 stars (out of 5) in the Zone wise Star Ratings of IICs of Gujarat State for the IIC Calendar Year 2019-20, as announced by the Hon’ble Minister of Education, Dr. Ramesh Pokhriyal’Nishank’ on 15th October, 2020.
The college signed MoUs with four different Pharmaceutical Companies for research, training and placement, that includes Zydus Research Centre (on 17th January, 2020), Intas Pharmaceuticals Ltd. (on 5th December, 2019), Daffodil PharmachemPvt. Ltd. (on 14th February, 2020) and Avery Pharmaceuticals Pvt. Ltd. (on 24th October, 2019).
LMCP and AIC-LMCP Foundation signed an MoUs with Indo-Soviet Friendship (ISF) College of Pharmacy, Moga (Punjab) in May 2020 for academic and research collaboration, mentorship and technical support to incubatees.
Newly appointed staff
Twelve new faculty members joined the college in this academic year. The college welcomes Dr. Ketan Ranch (Assoc. Professor), Dr. Devang Sheth (Assoc. Professor), Dr. Mukesh Kher (Asst. Professor), Dr. Sandip Dholakia (Asst. Professor), Mr. Mittal Dalal ((Asst. Professor),Dr. Sandip Patel(Asst. Professor), Dr. Chirag Patel(Asst. Professor), Dr. Jayesh Beladiya (Asst. Professor), Dr. Vidhi Shah(Asst. Professor), Dr. Palak Parikh(Asst. Professor), Ms. Mittalkumari Patel (Asst. Professor) and Mr. Vivek Chavda (Asst. Professor).
New Courses
The college, in collaboration with Indian Society for Clinical Research (ISCR), has started offering a certificate course on ‘Clinical Safety and Pharmacovigilance’ from 26th September, 2019 for 3 months.The course aimed at training individuals with an overview of the global regulatory environment in clinical safety and pharmacovigilance for all medical products (biopharmaceutical products, advanced therapies and medical devices), with a focus on pragmatic approaches to protecting patient safety. Total 15 delegates enrolled and completed the course.
New endowments
Five students of B. Pharm. Semester-II (Anjali Panchal, Shital Parmar, Megha Patil, Rutvi Patel and Hetvi Solanki) were selected for the grant of ‘FFE-Kanu Patel Scholarship’ from Amneal Pharmaceuticals on 29th February, 2020.
Admissions
The admission procedure was carried by Academic Committee for Professional Courses (ACPC) for D. Pharm, B.Pharm and M.Pharm Courses. For Pharm D courses the admission was carried by Gujarat Technological University (GTU). 112 students in D. Pharm, 86 students in B. Pharm, 46 students in M. Pharm and 37 students in Pharm D took admissions in the current academic year.
Training and placements
As most of the students in D. Pharm and B. Pharm courses prefer to go for higher education, less number of students opt for placement. more than 25 renowned companies and organizations including Amneal Pharmaceuticals, Food and Drug administration, Piramal, Intas Pharmaceuticals Ltd. and BioDev Services conducted on-campus or online interviews at our institute. 35 students from and UG and PG courses participated, out of which 17 students were placed in various organization with decent pay packages.
Achievements of faculty members
Dr. Mahesh Chhabria was awarded with ‘Prof. S. K. Banerjee Memorial Oration Award’ instituted by M. S. University Pharmacy Alumni Association, Vadodara after delivering Oration Lecture on ‘Discovery of new potential anti-tubercular agents’ on 15th February, 2020.
Dr. Anita Mehta received ‘Ms. Kanan Ishwar Mehta Memorial Lecture Oration Award-2019’ from MSU Pharmacy Alumni Association for the Oration Lecture on ‘An Insight into Adverse Drug Reaction’ held at M. S. University, Vadodara, on 28th September, 2019. She received two consultancy projects worth Rs. 4 lakhs.
Dr. Gaurang shah started working in collaboration with Zoetic Pharma, Ahmedabad, for a study regarding ‘Acute and Subacute toxicity study of Herbal formulations’ from January, 2020.
Fourteen faculty members rendered their expert services as resource person at various state, national and international level conferences and seminars.
Two faculty members received prizes for best oral and poster presentations.
8 Ph.D. Scholars were awarded Ph. D. degree under the guidance of 5 faculty members (3 under Dr. Mahesh Chhabria, 2 under Dr. Anita Mehta, 1 under Dr. Anuradha Gajjar, 1 under Dr. Jayant Dave and 1 under Dr. Mustakim Mansuri).
Conferences/seminars/workshop
The college organized 2 international conferences, 3 national conference, 6 state level webinars, 6 workshops, 14 guest lectures in association with AIC, SSIP, IPA-Gujarat state branch and IIC. Most of these were conducted on e-platforms due to the covid-19 pandemic. The college organized two weeks Faculty Development Program on ‘Emerging Trends in Pharmaceutical Sciences: From Research to Revenue’ sponsored by AICTE.
Research publications
This year 32 research articles were published in peer-reviewed national and international Journals. 2 books were published by our faculty members. Total 10 (09 Full Specification and 01 Provisional) patents were filed involving 8 faculty members from the college during the last year, through the LMCP-SSIP Scheme. 10 faculty members presented 34 research papers and review articles at 7 international conferences.
Research Projects
Research grant worth Rs. 3, 00,000 were received by 5 faculty members from various funding agencies. SSIP-LMCP sanctioned grant to 20 projects worth Rs. 7,95,000.
Ph.D’s awarded
8 Ph.D. Scholars were awarded Ph. D. degree under the guidance of 5 faculty members (3 under Dr. Mahesh Chhabria, 2 under Dr. Anita Mehta, 1 under Dr. Anuradha Gajjar, 1 under Dr. Jayant Dave and 1 under Dr. Mustakim Mansuri).
Result (Overall passed and appeared list of students for UG and PG students)
Total 11 B. Pharm. students of LMCP had qualified National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education Research Joint Entrance Examination-2020 (NIPERJEE-2020) for the admission to post graduation courses offered by NIPERs, wherein Dhruv Patel secured 12th All India Rank (AIR).
30 students (26 from B. Pharm. and 4 from M. Pharm.) qualified in GPAT-2020, a National level examination for entrance in postgraduate courses conducted by National Testing Agency (NTA) on 27th January, 2020, wherein Bansari Shah (B. Pharm. Semester-VIII) secured All India Rank 97.
Highlights of important events of the college
The college celebrated its first ever virtual Teacher’s Day on 5th September, with the enthusiastic participation from the students of all the courses at LMCP.
India’s 73rd Independence Day was celebrated with the same zeal on 15th August, 2020, without letting any pandemic come in the way of the patriotic spirit of LMCPians. 200 students along with faculty members joined the online-display of flag hoisting ceremony conducted by the Principal Dr. M. T. Chhabria at the college campus.
A one day seminar and workshop on ‘Woman Mantra – Each for Equal’ was organized by in the campus on 12th March, 2020 on the occasion of International Women’s Day for gender sensitization of all the students and teaching and non-teaching staff members of the college along with fun activities promoting the concepts of co-education and equality.
The Red Ribbon Club and NSS Unit of LMCP jointly organized a ‘Blood Donation and Thalassemia Testing Camp’ on 3rd February, 2020. 50 units of blood were donated by students and staff members to Gujarat Cancer Research Society and 169 students got tested for Thalassemia.
LMCP supported the ‘Election Card Campaigning’, an initiative taken by the Election Commission during 3rd and 4th January, 2020. Around 100 students from LMCP and other colleges were encourage and enrolled to procure their Voter IDs.
The campus was filled with festive vibesn 12th October, 2019 when LMCPians celebrated their ‘Annual Garba-2K19’ event.
The college celebrated 150th birth anniversary of Shri Mahatma Gandhi on 2nd October, 2019 by organizing ‘Safai Abhiyan’ in the campus, coordinated by the LMCP-NSS unit. 50 students and faculty members got involved in the activity.
The ‘5th Alumni Meet’ was organized on 5th January, 2020, under the banner of ‘LMCP Alumni Association and Research Society’. Sports activity and sports day
Sports week (LMPics 2020) was celebrated from 3rd February to 8th February. 552 students from UG and PG courses participated in various games like Cricket, Volley ball, Badminton, Table Tennis, Tug of War, Chess and Carom. 102 medals and certificates were distributed to winners of various events.
Co-curricular activities
A field visit was organized for the students of B. Pharm. Semester-VI and M. Pharm. Semester-II (Pharmaceutics) to BioNEST Incubation Centre at B. V. Patel Pharmaceutical Education and Research Development (PERD) Centre, Ahmedabad, on 26th February, 2020.
An industrial visit to Pharmanza Herbal Pvt. Ltd., Petlad, Gujarat, was organized for B. Pharm. Semester-VIII and M. Pharm. (Pharmacognosy) students on 22nd February, 2020.
A visit to Laxmi Healthcare (Ronak Chemicals Unit-2) and Norris Medicines Pvt. Ltd., Ankleshwar GIDC was arranged for Diploma Part-II students on 12th February, 2020.
Educational visits to FRIGE house, Institute of Human Genetics and Scientific Diagnostic Centre were organized for Pharm. D. Second Year students on 6th February, 2020 and 24th January, 2020, respectively.
Student Support activities
Career counseling activities were carried out through online platform for UG and PG students. More than 35 students participated in the counseling process.
A group of 15-20 students are provided with mentors who keep track with their overall academic progress. The mentors also help the students in dealing with their personality development and grooming.
Overseas Visits
Ms. Vandana Thakur (Ph. D. student), under the direct supervision of Dr. Anita A. Mehta (Professor and Head, Pharmacology Department) was selected for 2nd cohort visit to Canada under Canada-India Acceleration Program (CIAP), jointly managed by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and Canada-India Center for Excellence (CICE) at Carleton University. She was selected from Institution Innovation Councils (IICs) through National Proof of Concepts (PoC) Contest-2019 and visited Carelton University for 10 days comprehensive bootcamp and exposure visit to Canada.
Superannuation of staff members
Dr. Parloop Bhatt (Associate Professor, Pharmacology Department) retired on 30th November, 2019, after 32 years of service. She pursued her entire education from graduation to doctorate from LMCP. During her tenure of service at LMCP, she rendered her selfless contributions to the college through various academic and research activities with excellence. She will be remembered by LMCP for her innovative ideas and decision-making power.
Tribute to Prof. Mukhesh
Prof. Mukesh Gohel, an ideal teacher, accomplished researcher and devout professional carved his name in the hearts of his students and professionals before he left for his heavenly abode on 4th January, 2020. He pursued his entire education from LMCP and was serving as Principal before retiring in 2012. Afterwards, he continued to contribute to the cause of education and served as PG director at Anand Pharmacy College till the end. He received various awards like SPDS Mumbai Excellence Award for outstanding work in Dissolution and best IJPS research paper award twice. He had numerous publications, grants and patents to his credit. He made immense contribution in the field of Pharmacy and always took an opportunity to pass on his knowledge and skills to the younger generation and industry. Being very humble and simple, he could very easily connect with people of all strata. LMCP family pays its tribute to the legendary personality. May the departed soul rest in eternal peace.
