Department of Pharmaceutics and Pharm. Technology

Pharmaceutical technology is one of core subjects in Drug Formulation development. The focus areas are the development, production and characterization of dosage forms/drug delivery as well as the disposition and action of drugs in the body, preformulation, pharmacokinetics, bioavailability and bioequivalence, conventional and novel drug delivery systems, etc. It also comprehends basic, applied, and clinical investigations in pharmacokinetics/ biopharmaceutics, pharmaceutical analysis, pharmaceutical biotechnology, herbal medicines, and drug delivery. Pharmaceutics along with Pharmacology contribute maximum in turning a new chemical entity (NCE) into a medication to be used safely and effectively by patients.

Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry

Medicinal Chemistry is a unique blend of the corporal and biotic sciences. It is a new chief disciple of drug designing focusing on drug discovery, organic synthesis of medicinal agents, molecular modeling, drug metabolism, molecular toxicology and aspects of natural products and computational chemistry in close combination with chemical biology, enzymology and structural biology development of new therapeutic agents i.e., understanding their structure-activity relationships (SAR). It involves chemical aspects of identification, and then systematic, thorough synthetic alteration of new chemical entities to make them suitable for therapeutic use.

Department of Quality Assurance

The program is innovative and unique in offering in-depth, hands-on learning skills in all areas that impact drug quality. The Pharmaceutical Analysis is very precious unit of pharmaceutical industry. Their aim is not only testing but to provide superior quality of end product. More emphasis is positioned on different analytical methods reported in Pharmacopoeias. It also combines study of different fields together with clinical analysis, forensic analysis, bio-equivalence studies, trace analysis of metals and food and analytical techniques for raw materials, finished products, cosmetics, forensic, and clinical analysis. Importance of quality assurance in pharmaceutical field is also emphasized.

Department of Pharmacology

Pharmacology is a major subject in drug discovery. The division is concerned with in the direction of research both at animal and human levels. It deals with research and characterization of chemicals which show biological effects and the elucidation of cellular and organismal function in relation to these chemicals. Area of research involves oncology, fertility, infertility, anti-fertility, diabetes, Obesity and cell line based molecular research, CNS disorders including stroke, epilepsy, parkinson’s disease, alzheimer’s disease, drug abuse, and cardiovascular complications. Efforts are being made to develop animal models of mentioned disorders and NCEs including synthetic, semi-synthetic and herbals are evaluated for efficacy. Further investigations on safety and toxicity parameters are also involved.

Department of Pharmacognosy

Department of pharmacognosy focuses on the antique standpoint of traditional acquaintance by integrating it with the contemporary science. It incorporates the scientific study of crude drugs derived from plants, animals, microbes and minerals. Major activities are isolation of bio active phytoconstituents, development of herbal formulations, standardization of herbal raw materials and formulations traditional medicines, phytochemistry of natural products, development of in vitro testing models for the screening of natural products, etc.
